Changing the Light Bulb in a Steel Wall Pool

Changing the light bulb in your pool is an easy and inexpensive DIY project that you can do yourself. Before you get started, make sure the power is off and the circuit breaker for your pool is switched to the “off” position. It’s also a good idea to purchase a replacement light bulb and have it ready to go before you start. You can find more information about choosing a Stahlwandpool.

Most steel wall pools are equipped with a light fixture that is installed into a niche or casing in the pool wall. In most cases there is a screw holding the fixture in place, and this is what you will need to remove to change the bulb. Once you have removed the screw, you will probably need to use a flathead screwdriver to work around the edges of the light housing in order to loosen and pull it out of the wall.

Once the light fixture is out of the wall, you will need to unscrew the lamp from the socket. This may take a bit of force and patience. Be careful not to damage the socket or the cord while you are removing the lamp and light fixture. Once you have the light assembly out of the wall, it will be a good idea to tape over any bolt holes in the wall panel where the bolts were used to hold the hardware in place. This will help protect the new liner and keep any potential punctures from damaging it.

Next, you will need to clean the entire area where the light assembly was located in order to prep it for the new liner. The walls should be sanded and scraped down to a smooth surface, as well as inspected for rust. If rust is found, it should be cleaned off, and the surface treated with a rust conversion or rust hiding paint. If the rust is not bad, you can try to cover it up by troweling a sand cove up against the wall, or better yet, by using Foam Cove sections which install easily in minutes and provide much more liner protection than sand alone.

For overlap liners, you will need to adjust the amount of liner overlap on the outside of the pool until it is consistent all the way around and about 1″ above the floor of the pool. If you have been using pennies or Popsicle sticks to hold the liner in place, it is a good idea to replace them as they can become brittle over time.

Once you have cleaned the area and taped over any hole or exposed metal, you can now return the light assembly to its niche in the wall. If the screw you removed in step 3 is still in place, re-secure it by turning the screw back into its proper place. Finally, feed the power cord back into the wall by wrapping it several times around the base of the fixture. Once the light is reinstalled, you will need to re-connect the power cord and turn the circuit breaker for your pool back on.
